At Byron Sixth Form College we are committed to inspire and develop all members of our community on a journey through faith and learning. View our Frequently Asked Questions below:
Since County Durham has cut funding for transport, we have introduced financial support for students living further than 2 miles. Every half term you will be given a sum to help which increases the further away you live. There may also be spaces on our dedicated school buses – if you are successful with this application this is FREE. The more questions the better! It shows you want to make the right choice and that’s why we will answer all your questions. Then you will know that Byron is the best choice for sixth form study. Simply speak to Denise in reception on (0191) 587 6220 or email: enquiries@st-bedes.durham.sch.uk and we will do the rest! At Byron College we know how tough studying can be without much money coming into some homes. Students can also apply for Bursaries. These vary from Discretionary Bursary, FSM Bursary and Enhanced Bursary and depend upon your circumstances. They can be as high as £1,200p.a. Again, we can discuss with you when you apply and visit the college. You can apply at any time during the year (even if you’re still in year 10). Simply complete the application form online and email it or post the paper version and we will get in touch – simples! You can come in at any time to find out more and we can then give you some advice about what options would be best for you – we will always put you first and give you the best advice (that’s what makes us so good at what we do). We will talk to you about the GCSE requirements you may need and from there make you a conditional offer for September. Byron College welcomes students from all over County Durham and the Hartlepool area. Most students come from Easington Academy, Shotton Hall Academy, St. Bede’s, Dene, Seaham and Wellfield Schools. Students tell us that even if they were a little nervous starting in September, they soon make new friends from a range of 11-16 schools. So if there aren’t many from your current 11-16 school that have applied yet, that always changes. Making the best choice for you is the most important thing!
