At Byron Sixth Form, we place great emphasis of students building the skills and qualities required in the moden world, with significant importance placed on leadership, citizenship and collective responsibility.
Students at Byron Sixth Form are all encouraged to run for one of our six Senior Student positions. Each Senior Student represents one of our school’s core values and takes leadership for that aspect of life at the Sixth Form.
- Faith
- Responsibility
- Excellence
- Determination
- Citizenship
- Respect
Students work closely with each other, taking on the opinions and concerns of their peers and representing them to staff. Each Wednesday morning, students have an opportunity to meet together to discuss concerns and consider changes they wish to make. This system allows the students at Byron Sixth Form to take real ownership of their experience, something we encourage every student to embrace.
Students also take the lead in organising their own end of year celebrations and other events, encouraging all students to use their gifts and talents for the benefit of our community.
Sixth Form students are also valuable role models for their younger peers. Through the year there are countless opportunities for students to develop their communication, leadership and resilience by working with younger students either here at St Bede’s Catholic School or at our neighbouring primary school, Our Lady of the Rosary. Sixth Form students perform a vital role acting as Year 6 transition mentors and providing in-class support for younger peers requiring a boost in confidence.
Students also engage in a variety of leadership roles in raising money for charity and in support whole school campaigns and initiatives such as anti-bullying.
Student Librarians:
Students also have the opportunity to develop skills as a student librarian. These students organise and maintain our school’s library working closely with the English department to promote a love of reading across the school, and to maintain and operate a welcoming learning environment for both Sixth Form and whole school use.
